Kenny began playing the cornet at the age of 6 in Dungannon Silver Band and also took lessons with the S.E.L.B. music service tutors. Shortly after leaving school he continued lessons with John Black where he gained his Grade 8. Kenny then went to study the trumpet and cornet at the Ulster College of Music, Belfast under the direction of Jim Beck (Welsh Opera orchestra) and Paul Young (Ulster Orchestra). After spending some time with these tutpors he gained the ATCL Diploma in Trumpet and Cornet. Kenny was also awarded the Brass Award for the most improved player at the UCOM. His time with Francis King there was also very rewarding. Kenny was a Brass Tutor with the W.E.L.B. Nusic Service for almost 7 years before becoming self employed. He also conducted Dungannon Silver Band from 2000-2007 where he rebuilt them to a contesting standard and went to win Grade 4 titles in both the NIBA and the BBL contests. Kenny has been lucky in his time to perform with some great musicians such as The Fairey Band and Dr Ronan Tynan of the Irish Tenors. Since leaving Dungannon Silver in 2007 he joined Roughan on Solo Cornet. After teaching and conducting for 10 years Kenny is enjoying the challenge at Roughan as a player again and hopes to be here for a long time to come!
