Roughan finish 4th at NIBA |
|
Roughan competed in Grade 2 of the NIBA Championships of Northern Ireland yesterday on 31st October 2009.
The adjudicator was Peter Bassano who was in the province to take the intermediate conductors course run by the NIBA. He is an accomplished Trombone player and played in the Philharmonic Orchestra for 27 years. Seven bands had entered to compete and Roughan were drawn number four out of six bands as one band did not turn up. We were drawn in between Downshire who were 2nd here last year and also recently won a competition in Scotland and Ballyduff who were reigning Valley Entertainments champions. We gave a good performance and the band were happy with the performance that we gave. The draw was as follows - Lourdes
- Drogheda
- Downshire
- Roughan
- Ballyduff
- Carrick
After the Grade 2 bands had played he gave a talk on his views of the piece which was a tough piece for Grade 2. Roughan placed 4th in a very tightly contested section and each band in the top 4 were separated by a point each. Full results can be seen at the Contest Results page Congratulations to conductor Keith Anderson who played the difficult Baritone part of Life Divine with Laganvale. His band won the Championship section and will now qualify to compete at the 2010 European Championships in Austria! |
